QR Code Sign-In allows users to quickly authenticate on a device by scanning a QR code with another device. This is particularly useful for shared devices, such as interactive touchscreens, where manual entry can be cumbersome. This guide explains how to use QR Code Sign-In step by step.
Step-by-Step: Signing in with a QR Code
On Device 1 (The Device You Want to Sign In On)
-
Open the Sign in with another device page.
-
A QR code will be displayed along with a manual URL and code.
-
Use your second device to scan the QR code or open the URL and enter the displayed code.
-
Click Submit to continue.
-
Device 1 will now show a loading screen while waiting for confirmation from Device 2.
On Device 2 (Your Trusted Device for Authentication)
-
If scanning the QR code, you will be taken to the login page.
-
If opening manually, enter the code displayed on Device 1.
Variation A: You Still Need to Sign In
-
If you are not yet signed in on Device 2, proceed with your usual login method (Google, Microsoft, Apple, School Account, or Email & Password).
-
Important: QR Code Sign-In cannot be used to sign in on Device 2.
Variation B: You Are Already Signed In
-
A prompt will appear asking you to confirm the sign-in request for Device 1.
-
If you approve, you will be shown a two-digit code to enter on Device 1.
On Device 1 (Final Step)
-
Enter the two-digit code shown on Device 2.
-
Click Submit to finalize the login.
-
If successful, you are now signed in and will be redirected to the Apps Overview or the application you intended to access.
Troubleshooting
-
QR Code Not Scanning? Try manually entering the URL and code instead.
-
Sign-In Not Completing? Ensure Device 2 is signed in with the correct account.
