If you are unable to update the BIOS in Windows, or if ChromeOS Flex is installed, you can update the BIOS by booting the OPS from a bootable USB stick. This article explains how to create the USB stick.
Requirements: USB Flash Drive (Minimum 2GB), ProwisePE.iso, Windows device, Keyboard and Mouse
Step 1: Download the ProwisePE.iso file and place it in an easy to find folder (such as your desktop) onto your Windows Device.
Step 2: Download and run Rufus 4.11 to prepare your bootable stick: https://rufus.ie/en/
Step 3: Insert your flash drive into the windows device and open Rufus 4.11.exe.
Step 4: Press the “Select” button, and select the ProwisePE.iso file.
Step 5: Check your settings and press the “start” button:
After pressing start, you will see the following screen:
Select “Write in ISO Image Mode (Recommended)” and press “OK”
Rufus will show a warning message saying all data currently present on the selected Flash drive will be destroyed:
Rufus will now start the process of creating the Bootable USB drive containing ProwisePE.
This may take a few minutes.
Step 6: Once Rufus has completed the process of writing ProwisePE to your Flash Drive, the Status bar will appear green and display the text “READY”
You can now eject your Flash Drive and remove it from your Windows Device.
This can be done by right-clicking the Flash Drive in your file explorer, and clicking on “Eject”
Step 7: Insert the ProwisePE flash drive into the device you wish to update.
Step 8: When powering up the device, during the startup sequence when it shows the Prowise logo, press the button listed near the bottom of your screen to enter the boot menu (For most Prowise devices, this is F7, but may vary depending on your device.)
Step 9: You will now enter the boot menu of your device, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to select “EFI USB Device (USB)” with the enter key.
You will now enter the ProwisePE environment.
Step 10: Wait for the ProwisePE environment to have fully started and open the “BIOS_Update” folder on the desktop:
Step 11: Select and open the folder corresponding to the device you are updating, and run the “update.bat” file as administrator.
Step 12: A new window will now open and will install the BIOS update for your device.
(DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR DEVICE DURING THIS!)
After the update is complete, the device will automatically restart into your usual environment. After this is done, you may remove the flash drive and you are finished.
