If you cannot update the BIOS in Windows, or if ChromeOS Flex is installed, you can update the BIOS by booting the OPS from a bootable USB stick. This article explains how to create the USB stick.
Requirements: USB stick (at least 2GB), ProwisePE.iso, Windows device, keyboard and mouse
Step 1: Download the ProwisePE.iso file and place it in an easy-to-find folder (such as your desktop) on your Windows device.
Step 2: Download and launch Rufus 4.11 to prepare your bootable stick: https://rufus.ie/en/
Step 3: Insert your USB stick into the Windows device and open Rufus 4.11.exe.
Step 4: Press the “Select” button and choose the ProwisePE.iso file.
Step 5: Check the settings and press the “Start” button:
After pressing start, you will see the following screen:
Select “Write in ISO Image mode (recommended)” and press “OK”
Rufus will display a warning message that all data currently on the selected USB stick will be erased:
Rufus will now begin the process of creating the bootable USB drive with ProwisePE.
This may take a few minutes.
Step 6: Once Rufus has finished writing ProwisePE to your USB stick, the status bar will turn green and the text “READY” will appear
You can now eject and remove your USB stick from your Windows device.
Do this by right-clicking on the USB stick in File Explorer and selecting “Eject”
Step 7: Insert the ProwisePE USB stick into the device you want to update.
Step 8: When starting the device, during the boot sequence when the Prowise logo appears, press the button shown at the bottom of your screen to open the boot menu (for most Prowise devices this is F7, but this may vary depending on the device.)
Step 9: You will now enter the device’s boot menu, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to select “EFI USB Device (USB)” and press enter.
You will now enter the ProwisePE environment.
Step 10: Wait until the ProwisePE environment has fully started and open the folder “OPS_(G4)_Chrome_Flex_BIOS_Update" or ”OPS_(G5_G6)_Chrome_Flex_BIOS_Update on the desktop depending on which module you have:
Step 11: Double-click update.bat to start the update.
Step 12: A new window will now open that will install the BIOS update for the device.
(DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR DEVICE DURING THIS!)
After the update is complete, the device will automatically restart into the usual environment. You can then remove the USB stick and you are done.
