Devices with Google EDLA certification use the Android operating system. One of the standard privacy features in modern versions of Android is ‘MAC randomisation’. This means that the device generates a random (changing) MAC address instead of communicating the fixed, physical MAC address of the network card.
For Wi-Fi connections, we have now successfully resolved this behaviour, so that the screens function seamlessly on wireless business networks. However, we can see that MAC randomisation is still occurring with wired network connections (LAN).
We understand that a stable and predictable wired network connection is crucial for IT administrators. The good news is that we have now found a structural solution for this specific LAN behaviour.
This solution will be integrated into the upcoming update to Central 7.3. This update is currently still in development and is expected at a later date. Once Central 7.3 is available and installed, wired network communication on EDLA devices will also work as standard and without issues, without changing MAC addresses.
